Tuning Into the Whispers

I always find myself feeling a bit frantic at this time of year.  Trying to juggle too many things at one time.  Trying to make my self and my resources available to too many different things and people and places.  Trying to plan and perform and be amazing at as many things as possible.

It doesn’t tend to work out too well.

It is the end of the school year, the time when the extra activities at school seem to increase exponentially (field trips, fundraisers, finals, etc), while everything on the home front continues at a break-neck speed as well.  I’m trying to help out at my kids’ school, minister to all the amazing women in the Mom’s Ministry I am a part of, make plans for the upcoming summer, balance our budget, and handle all the “normal” stuff our family already has going on.

I’m on decision overload.  Tapped out.  Emotionally drained.  Like I’ve given everything I’ve got and I don’t have any more energy left.

And I’ve still got several more weeks before anything is expected to calm down!

Ugh.

Though counterintuitive, I have found this to be true: In times like this I need to remember to slow down, take a deep breath or two, and just linger with God.

What a perfect time to read the wise and insightful Bonnie Gray’s new book Whispers of Rest.  For the next several days, as part of her book launch team, I have the privilege of getting a sneak peek at her soon-to-release new book.  Whispers of Rest is a 40-day devotional aimed at getting us to reconnect with our Maker and discover how beloved we each are.

Who doesn’t need that, right?!?!

I’m going to handle life in a different way this season.  With the help of Bonnie’s devotionals, I will be taking on the challenge of setting time aside to connect with God each day and, whenever possible, I will be sharing parts of my journey with you all.

I just know God is going to meet me here and remind me of what really matters in life.

Hallelujah.  I could use a little bit of soul-refreshment right about now.  You?

Thank you, Lord, for the timely arrival of this challenge.  And thank you, Lord, for inspiring Bonnie to write this beautiful book and share it with the rest of us.  I look forward to all You are going to do in me over the next few weeks.  Amen.

**If you would like to take some deep breaths, reconnect with God, and discover how beloved YOU are, I highly encourage you to pop over to Bonnie Gray’s site and pre-order her new book “Whispers of Rest.”  And, just so you know, there are some awesome bonus items (including a super-cute necklace!) for a limited number of folks who order early!

What about you?

What if, despite the busyness, you paused and allowed yourself to breathe for a moment?  How does it feel to hear Jesus whispering “rest” to you?
